A tractor driver was killed after a truck crashed into him on a Louisiana highway, police said.
Abbeville resident Alvin J. Minnick Jr., 64, was driving his John Deere farming tractor along US Highway 167 around 1:30 p.m. May 14, according to a news release from the Louisiana State Police.
A GMC Sierra 3500 truck driving in the same direction came up behind the tractor and rear-ended Minnick, according to police. Officers aren’t certain what caused the truck to collide with the tractor.
The tractor flipped over on impact, and Minnick was thrown from his vehicle, according to police. Minnick was pronounced dead at the scene in the Vermilion Parish at Louisiana Highway 696, the release said.
The driver of the truck was wearing a seat belt, but Minnick was not restrained, according to police. Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers.
Charges are pending, and authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, according to the release.
